Other Mothers Franchise Info
Back when Other Mothers first opened its doors in 1979, my intention was simple: to create a business that would provide me with a good income while still allowing me to spend time with my children. Meanwhile, I hoped to provide a service to the community, by providing families with the quality clothing, baby items and furniture they need at prices they can afford.
Over the years, I discovered that so many other moms and dads out there wanted the same things I did. These entrepreneurial-minded folks want the freedom and income that frequently accompany business ownership, without the massive risk, time commitment and learning curve associated with starting from scratch.
From there, the Other Mothers franchise concept was born, and I am happy to say that my original intention remains relevant today, as we welcome new franchise owners into our business year after year. Not only are we allowing people to pursue their entrepreneurial passions, but we’re giving them the freedom to run their businesses part time so they can still enjoy their time away from work with loved ones. Below, I invite you to take a look at some of the many advantages of opening your own store.
The Market Is Right
Consider that there are more than 40 million children under the age of 13 in the United States, and you can imagine the need for quality, affordable children’s products is tremendous. In fact, according to census data, every year the number of children under the age of 5 grows by at least 200,000 children.
At the same time, the economic recession of recent years has forever changed the way that most families spend their money. The market for children’s clothing, toys and equipment is $200 billion and growing-even more than the market for fast food! And with the resale sector now the fastest-growing sector in the retail market, it’s clear that Other Mothers is at the forefront of a rapidly exploding industry.
A Business of the Future
Other Mothers offers a clothing exchange to the public that specializes in quality used children’s, teen’s, women’s and maternity clothing along with baby furniture, toys and accessories-all under one roof. In addition, Other Mothers stores also carry some new items. With the rapidly rising costs of raising a family, and the children who quickly outgrow their clothes and items before they show any wear, today’s consumer views Other Mothers as a smart place to enjoy a bargain.
Other Mothers sets itself apart from our competitors by offering families an upscale environment, a product selection, an opportunity to recycle gently loved items for credit or cash, and an overall experience that appeals to customers who otherwise would not shop in a thrift store. The store also appeals to the environmentally conscious who like the idea of recycling.
A Proven Business System With a Company That Cares
Our entire business model is designed to give back-to families that need our quality, reasonably priced items; to select charities that reflect our company’s vision and mission; and to franchisees who have a passion for entrepreneurship. That’s why with Other Mothers, you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself. From our sophisticated inventory and buying system to ongoing training, mentoring and support, we guide our franchisees every step of the way as they start and grow their businesses.
The original Other Mothers stores were smaller and had more of a co-op feeling, with moms helping other moms. Now, it is the larger-store format (6,000 to 8,000 square feet) in nicer shopping centers that have enough room to sell in high volume with low prices that works best for both the store owner and the customer. In 2012, we launched a new business system with in-store cameras, proprietary point of sale software with bar-coded inventory, new indoor signage, improved training and processing.
The new program is designed to be particularly attractive and user-friendly for multiunit investors and for store owners who prefer to be part time or semi-absentee-giving you the…
Freedom to Do What You Love
We have been fine-tuning our system to allow the owner of the business not to necessarily be the main operator of the business. Using a combination of standardized buying and selling of items, an excellent employee training and incentive program, a good camera system, and a specialized point of sale (POS) system, our owners are able to balance their ownership with other things they may have going on in their lives. Other Mothers has a proven track record of success for more than 30 years, and does not require that the owner be a constant presence in their own business. This is a business that is right for the times and can be an excellent investment.
There could not be a better time to pursue franchise ownership with Other Mothers. If you, too, share the desire to be your own boss within a proven business system, we would love to hear from you at Other Mothers. To learn more and to find out if this opportunity could be mutually beneficial for both of us, please complete the form at left, and we’ll get in touch with you as soon as possible.
